Design
The Vengeance is a heavy assault corvette, combining powerful regenerating adaptive biomechanical armor with powerful propulsion and weapon systems. To power this fearsome combination, the Vengeance utilizes the Type 327 CR/Heavy Walker reactor, originally designed for heavy ground-based siege walkers. This powerful but compact reactor produces five gigawatts of power under normal operation, making the Vengeance a match for dramatically larger ships.
To hold this powerful reactor, most of the Vengeance's main body is given over to holding the reactor, with fuel and other biomechanical organs (including the dimensional organ) stored in the head or outriggers. The Vengeance's armament is a pair of powerful plasma lances- also taken from ground-based walkers- which are powerful and accurate, but lack in fire rate and range. Because of this, the Vengeance can be overwhelmed by enemy fighters in numbers, though it is often able to outspeed or outmaneuver enemy fighter craft with its semi-inertialess drive.
Mounted in the front, behind the multispectral scanners, is the protective Chrysalis of the ships pilot. Heavily armored and radiation-shielded, the Chrysalis holds the Sage who pilots the vehicle, wiring them into the Vengeance's neural spire so that they can control the ship as an extension of their own self.
History
The Vengeance is the mainstay of the Cytaari fleet, by far the most produced 'warship' within the navy. It was designed as an early project of the Phoenix Prince Len "The Redeemer", before their ascension to the throne. Faced with a need for a powerful ship to face off against Directorate force with, but limited resources, the Vengeance was designed as a relatively small ship capable of punching well above its weight. The coaxial plasma lances it was armed with could easily penetrate the lackluster armor of even larger directorate ships, though they would struggle against Ascendancy battlecruisers later on in the war.
Because of its early design, many vengeance's were built early on. while they could be continuously upgraded and modified, the basic design has remained in production since their inception, resulting in large numbers of the craft finding their way into Cytaari fleets. Packs of Vengeance's could pose a threat even to enemy battleships. However, the earlier models of the A and B series lacked in versatile weapons, possessing little in the way of defense against enemy fighters. Later versions of the Vengeance would include point defense turrets and plasma torpedoes to provide the Vengeance with a more versatile array of weaponry.
The Vengeance is a popular choice for fighting raiders of any type, as the plasma lances are highly effective against corvettes and frigates which are most typically used for raiding. Owing to its relatively small size it usually only requires a single Sage to pilot, often multiple vengeances being operated by family or friends working in close synchronization. Interfacing with another Sage to synchronize their combat efforts is a deeply personal matter, as it completely opens up their mind and thoughts to another. During combat this connection can be powerful enough that one Sage can control another Vengeance remotely should its pilot become incapacitated.
Swinging around an asteroid at speeds that would kill a normal pilot, the Vengeance throttles its vectored drives forward, plasma lances aiming at its prey. The Ascendancy frigate tried to turn to bring its main gun to bear once again, only to be left behind as teh Vengeance zipped by it. Thermal blaster shots rained uselessly against the Vengeance's armored hull, as the powerful plasma lances flared to life. Two shots of blazing, effervescent plasma cut through the Kopis's thermal shields, melting through the ships relatively vulnerable hull. The Vengeance came to a swift halt behind the Kopis, outside of the firing arc of most of its weapons, and waited for their plasma lances to recharge. When they did, the second volley easily disintegrated the Kopis's engines, chunks of molten metal vaporized and drifting through space as the Kopis's power systems died, leaving what was once a member of the Ascendancy fleet to drift hopelessly through space.
