Abilities and Equipment
An ancient Shadowspawn, the Voidserpent possesses immense spiritual energy. Though it has a tenuous grasp on reality, this can also be a boon to it; it can phase out of its physical form of a massive obsidian serpent into an obscure creature of shadow and smoke that can move through physical barriers unimpeded.
The Voidserpent commands powerful shadow magic that is able to suppress not only light but Resonant Energy, allowing it to snuff out the lifeforce of creatures like a candle. It can inject Resonant Shadow through its fangs in physical form, acting like a fast acting poison that causes intense numbing, cold, and blindness as it turns life, light, and heat to oblivion.
In physical form, the Voidserpent takes the form of a massive obsidian snake, with enough power and speed to crush even solid stone.
As a Shadowspawn, the Voidserpent is an alien entity from beyond the stars, composed of spirit essence and with only a tenuous grasp on the world. Their form, as such, is inconsistent; When most manifested, they appear as a massive serpent as if carved from obsidian, black scales with gleaming red eyes and massive fangs the size of a longsword. But when resting or phasing through matter, they became naught but smoky shadow on a whim.
An ancient Shadowspawn which traveled to the world long before the advent of the mortal races, along with the Primordial Nightmares, the Voidserpent did not take the fast track to growing in power that the Nightmares did, instead remaining isolated and growing in strength through honing their own abilities.
The Voidserpent witnessed the rise of mortal races with idle curiosity, content to reign within their own shadowy lair, which changed position from time to time. With time, it became a potent magi, using its gifts to explore the deep places of the world.
However, like many Resonant creatures, the great cataclysm of the Sariens deeply wounded the Voidserpent. It avoided the worst of it, as its essence was not tied with Primordial Sin- unlike the Nightmares, the Voidserpent had never fed on the lifeforce of mortals, and remained detached from that corruption. Even so, its sensitivity to the resonant energies of that event lead it to rest in deep slumber to recover.
Many centuries later, it awoke to a strange world with new civilizations and far less in the way of magical powers. Once again it sought to explore, until it discovered that it was not alone; The Abyss that had ravaged the world had begun to return.
